Iceland was once more in the limelight this month as French band Woodkid released a new video for their single “I Love You”. The video was shot last October and reveals the amazing beauty of Iceland. Because I’m a travel guide, I’m sometimes asked to work on exciting film projects, so I now invite you on a little guided tour of I Love You!
The South Coast – a favourite destination of travellers in Iceland
The film was shot first in Fríkirkja, the little church by the pond of Reykjavík. Then we relocated to the South Coast to follow the wanderings of the main character through the sulfuric area of Krísuvik, the black sand beaches of Reynisfjara near Vík, and the stunning landscape of the glacier Sólheimajökull. Exploring a glacier is one of the top adventures you will find in the land of ice and fire, so it’s no wonder that the film crew choose to spend most of the day shooting on one! This particular glacier is located only about two hours from Reykajvik and welcomes visitors for a walk with a guide all year around!
“Icelandic nature is not joking!”
In the scene where you see the actor taken down by the wave, that actually happened for real! The waves were so strong that they not only took down the actor, but the film crew and the two divers who were securing the team as well! Everyone was completely soaked, but thankfully safe.
Woodkid “Iceland – I love you”: a dream come true!
The universe portrayed by Woodkid in their video is a monochrome world of natural beauty and reflects the singularity of their new album entitled Golden Age. I’m not at all surprised they came to Iceland to shoot their video and I expect we’ll see them back again soon to make another! If you’d like to experience for yourself the wonders of this particular glacier in the South Coast; you might like to try the TAKE A WALK ON THE ICE-SIDE tour offered by ICELAND TRAVEl, which takes you on a tour of the same glacier - you may (if you’re lucky) get me as your guide too
