Reykjavík’s Árbær Open Air Museum will be celebrating its 60th birthday this weekend with a fantastic programme of events for guests to enjoy! The Museum, which features a superb collection of vintage houses, preserving perfectly an Icelandic era gone by, holds a special place in the hearts of many people with both locals and visitors enjoying the lovely surroundings. The museum has also been the setting for a number of weddings, where couples, like the wonderful Claire and Carl Bates, whose wedding photo is featured here, have had the pleasure of getting married in the adorable little Árbær church.

The birthday celebrations commence at 17:00 today with activities such as popping corn over an open fire and dressing up in vintage clothes. There will also be a “Swap ’til you drop” exchange market and a pub quiz at Dillon House. Dagur B. Eggertsson, the Mayor of Reykjavík (the one with the fabulous hair) will also be there with a special birthday announcement at 19:57 on the dot this evening followed by music from the Tómas R, Sigríður Thorlacius and Gunnar Gunnarsson trio.
