Reykjavik’s daily music scene: The Murphy Beds come to town

JEFFERSON HAMER AND EAMON O’LEARY DELIVER A SUPERB PERFORMANCE AT REYKJAVIK’S CAFÉ ROSENBERG.

I last blogged about a couple of big names coming to Iceland next month, but it’s good to know that no matter when you visit, there are local and international live acts to choose from almost any day of the week. Last night was no exception as Murphy Beds members Jefferson Hamer and Eamon O’Leary entertained a cozy crowd at Café Rosenberg, probably Iceland’s best acoustic music venue.

The musicians (hailing from New York, but O’Leary still sporting a thick Irish accent) gave a faultless, energetic performance of some traditional acoustic Irish and American music, ranging from soulful ballads to fast-paced bluegrass. At the end of the night, O’Leary and Hamer were joined by members of Icelandic band Illgresi for a guitar/banjo play-off. A whole lot of fun.
