REYKJAVIK’S DARK MUSIC DAYS FESTIVAL OPENS TONIGHT

The annual Dark Music Days Festival officially kicks off tonight with an opening ceremony and live broadcast radio concert followed by the Opening Concert at Harpa.

The festival is an annual celebration of contemporary music, and the Iceland Symphony Orchestra will perform works tonight including two new pieces by Icelandic composers Hugi Gudmundsson (Orkestur, 2011) and Atli Ingólfsson (Mani, 2011).

The orchestra will be conducted by Ilan Volkov and other works include Giacinto Scelsi’s Hymnos (1963).

Most performances throughout the festival are at Harpa, where there will be also be a special music programme for children on Sunday at 11.30 a.m. You can see the full festival programme here.
