Northern Lights alert in Iceland! Lisa Gail ShannenApril 12, 2013NewsOutingsTours0 Comments Big green Northern Lights smile in the sky!. Photo by Roman Gerasymenko I imagine there’ll be lots of people staying up late tonight here in Iceland to catch what is predicted to be an epic show of Northern Lights! According to the Geophysical Institute’s Aurora forecast, activity for the next 48 hours is ‘high’, so if you’re one of the lucky visitors currently in town, there are a few tours specialising in Northern Lights that you might like to try. We recently did the fabulous Northern Lights boat tour with Iceland Travel and would definitely recommend that. But in case you don’t fancy a waltz on the waves, you could also take one of the Northern Lights coach-tours out of town with Reykjavik Excursions – the idea is to get away from any city-light pollution for better viewing. Another option is to go down to the Grótta lighthouse in Seltjarnanes, it’s a bit of a trek from the city centre if you’re on foot, but it does make for a wonderful walk along the coast – just make sure you’re wrapped-up warm: it’s cold out there tonight! I also just discovered a tour I hadn’t heard of before from Iceland Travel called “Northern Lights and Lobster Jeep Tour“, which combines dinner at Fjorubordid – arguably Iceland’s best lobster restaurant down by the sea in Stokkseyri (about 40 minutes drive from Reykjavik) – with Northern Lights viewing on the South Coast. It says it leaves at 7pm so it’s too late for tonight, but it certainly sounds like it could be an unforgettable tomorrow night One more thing! Buy this song and play it while you’re watching! It really is the PERFECT soundtrack to go with an epic Northern Lights show!
