Make some great memories with Icelandair’s new Celebration Stopover Buddies!
Back by popular demand for the winter season, Icelandair Stopover Buddies have big plans to make your stay in Iceland extra special. Launched in response to some interesting research, which determined that people would prefer to experience local culture and unique adventures while on holiday, the stopover-buddies initiative offers visitors to Iceland the chance to enjoy Iceland in a novel way, with a focus on making people feel more like guests than tourists.
How it works:
Anyone booking a Stopover stay with the airline (a deal which gives passengers flying between North America and European destinations the chance to stopover in Iceland at no extra airfare) can spend a day experiencing life like a local in the company of one of Icelandair’s active and fun-loving employees; many of whom have volunteered especially to be “buddies” for the project. The buddies, who are all local experts, can be booked with a certain theme: options ranging from culture, food and adventure, to health, lifestyle and nature, and new for the winter season, the airline have introduced a special “Celebration Buddy” who can arrange all sorts of activities, such as celebrating bachelor/bachelorette parties, proposals, graduations, birthdays or anniversaries with a unique spin, like under the northern lights, at an Icelandic football match, or with a Game-of-Thrones theme, for example. With Icelandair’s cool staff connections, music fans who book Stopover buddies could also find themselves jamming with some local musicians or even hanging out with Icelandair co-pilot Sverrir and his brother, who just happens to be in Monsters of Men.
The Celebration Stopover Buddy service is free to book and each experience lasts for up to one day. Buddies can be requested when booking an Icelandair stopover between 11th October 2016 until 31st March 2017.
