Free Iceland Writers Retreat event hosted in collaboration with Reykjavik UNESCO City of Literature
It might not come as a surprise to hear we are all a bit bonkers about literature here in Iceland, so you can imagine how thrilled we are that one of Iceland’s top literary events is only two weeks away! Now celebrating its fourth anniversary, the Iceland Writers Retreat – co-founded by the fabulous Eliza Reid and Erica Green – invites a number of best-selling and award-winning international authors to host a series of master classes on the art of writing. As part of the 5-day retreat, participants also get to visit a number of landmark Icelandic attractions and attend some great literary events and receptions.
The event officially starts on Wednesday 5th April, but, as a special treat ahead of the programme, there will be a free reading session open to the public on Tuesday 4th with this year’s featured authors: Olof Palme Prize winner Carsten Jensen; bestselling author Bret Anthony Johnston; New York Times bestselling author Chris Cleave; author and Iceland Writers Retreat alumna Claudia Casper; chef and author David Lebovitz; Giller Prize winner Esi Edugyan; author, ethnologist and journalist Vilborg Davíðsdóttir; Man Booker Prize shortlist nominee Madeleine Thien; bestselling author Meg Wolitzer; Somerset Maugham Prize winner Nadifa Mohamed; Bollinger Everyman Wodehouse winner Paul Murray; and, author of The Paris Wife Paula McLain.
The free event takes place on Tuesday 4th April at the Iðnó building (Vonarstræti 3) by the famous Tjörnin city lake in Reykjavík (from 8-10pm) and is open to as many people as the hall can accommodate. Arrive early to claim your seat!
