If you want to know who Iceland’s next breaking artist will be then you might just want to keep yourself updated on this year’s bands performing at the upcoming  I.M.E – Iceland Music Experiments event. Known locally here in Iceland as “Músíktilraunir” the 5-day competition showcases numerous up-and-coming Icelandic artists and is responsible for launching the musical careers of bands such as Of Monsters and Men, who won the I.M.E title back in 2010. Around 40 bands are battling it out this year over the course of the event with just 12 spots at the grand final up for grabs. The winning band can expect lots of prizes including studio time, flights with Icelandair – a company with a long history of supporting exciting music projects, and some music-related gift certificates. The band will also get plenty of exposure in the bright and glittery limelight of publicity in addition to performing at the country’s coolest music festival: Iceland Airwaves.

The final event will be held this Saturday 1st April at the Harpa Concert Hall. If you’re in town you might like to check it out. Tickets are available from and cost 2,000 ISK ($18/14).
