The annual Dark Music Days Festival kicks off tonight with an opening ceremony and live broadcast radio concert followed by the Opening Concert at Harpa.
After seeing in the New Year with a bang, Reykjavik continues to celebrate light with bonfires and more fireworks tonight.

The first of the thirteen long-awaited Yuletide Lads (Jólasveinar) made his way down from the mountains sometime last night, leaving a little present in the shoes of Icelandic children.
