Sinéad O’Connor. With two nights left of Airwaves 2011, I fear nothing will top Sinéad’s performance at Fríkirkjan last night. It’s the first time I’ve seen her live. Heard her. Experienced her! I didn’t even consider myself a particularly avid fan. Until now.
Apart from the music itself, I loved all the little things you take away from being there—the banter between songs (I had no idea Sinéad O’Connor was so funny!), the improvised lyrics, the bare feet, black nail polish glinting in the candlelight, the joyful, tearful eyes of the audience. But more than anything, the voice. That voice. Nothing compares. Filling the space so completely that it always took a minute to realise when she’d started singing another song a cappella.
Thank you Sinéad.
